Blending global influences with emotional storytelling\, Sangweni’s performance promises a moving and unforgettable night of music. \nThe evening opens with Mahogany L. Browne\, one of the most celebrated voices in contemporary poetry. A writer\, playwright\, organizer\, and educator\, Browne is an NY Emmy\, NAACP\, and Audie finalist\, a 2022 Kennedy Center Next 50 Fellow\, and the inaugural Poet-in-Residence at Lincoln Center. Her collection Chrome Valley won the 2024 Paterson Poetry Prize\, and her young adult novel was longlisted for the National Book Award. \nMusic throughout the night will be curated by DJ Tadi\, a Brooklyn-born DJ known for high-energy sets that move effortlessly between genres\, from dancehall and hip-hop to deep cuts and nostalgic favorites. The evening will include live performances and music from DJ Jahmedicine. \nABOUT THE ARTIST \nBorn and raised in Brooklyn NY\, Patrick Dougher is a self-taught Artist\, Musician\, Poet\, Educator & Spiritual Activist. \nPatrick has played and recorded with Grammy award winners Sade\, Chuck D (Public Enemy) and Dan Zanes as well as many other notables. He is the drummer on “Dub Side as the Moon” one of the best selling Reggae LP’s of all time. \nHe has worked as a Teaching Artist in NYC public schools\, as an Art Therapist working with HIV positive children and as the Director of community arts organizations. For over 20 years Patrick has used the arts to empower and support the socio-emotional growth and health of “at-risk” and disenfranchised youth of the city. \nThrough his art Patrick seeks to inspire and to celebrate the noble beauty and divine nature of people of African descent and to connect urban African American culture to its roots in sacred African art\, spirituality and ritual.

The show transformed the fashion landscape and firmly established American fashion houses as the leaders of the fashion world. It was the first time the fashion world’s gaze was fixated on American design. This original long-form documentary is the first produced by fashion video network Made to Measure\, a new channel highlighting the people\, issues\, trends and events that have defined and transformed the world of fashion.\n\n\n

In return ChoreoQuest resident choreographers host master classes\, workshops\, community engagement activities and choreograph on The Billie Holiday’s Youth Arts Academy dancers.

This film chronicles the music from juju to Afrobeat and everything in between and its parallels to Nigeria’s socio-political evolution from the colonial 1950s through the nationalist movement and independence in the ’60s. Rare archival footage colors this performance-rich tour through the history of the nation’s music. \nFilmmaker Bio:Siji Awoyinka is a multidisciplinary aural and visual storyteller. Born in the UK to Nigerian parents\, he spent much of his early childhood in Lagos and London before coming to the US to further pursue his musical ambitions.
